- GOALS OF THE PHYS ED PROGRAM
- Each student will feel successful and develop a sense of self-confidence.
- Each student will experience a wide variety of motor and ball handling skills.
- Each student will exhibit good sportsmanship and safety.
- Each student will understand the importance of physical activity and its affect on personal health.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE
The guidelines for what to wear in P.E. are based on safety. We also want each student to feel comfortable enough to move freely for activities and learning.
- Athletic shoes for traction (hard sole shoes slip).
- Shorts, pants, or sweats. Girls may wear shorts under dresses or skirts.
- Short sleeve top under sweater/sweatshirt to allow for ventilation.
- leave dangling jewelry at home.
- Please bring a smile that comes from being well rested and fed.
RESPONSIBILITY
In an effort to help our students learn what it means to grow up and take responsibility for their actions I will be discussing the following topics during our physical education classes.
-
Irresponsibility = pushing and shoving others, calling others names.
-
Self- Control = waiting until appropriate time to talk, practicing skills, but not all the time.
-
Involvement = playing with others, listening to directions, helping to clean up, and trying new things without complaining and saying "I can't".
-
Self- Responsibility = returning equipment to its proper place, trying a new skill and practicing it outside of P.E. class.
-
Caring = Asking others (not just friends) to join them in play, helping another student with a skill, willingly working with anyone in the class and staying on task, even when the teacher is not looking.
PERFORMANCE REPORTINGThe students in grades 2 through 4 are tested annually. I will measure components of health-related physical fitness to provide feedback to students, teachers, parents and school administrators.-
Each of the test items selected will assess important aspects of a student's health related fitness, not skill or agility.
-
Students are compared not to each other, but to health fitness standards, carefully established for each age and gender, that indicate good health.
Students receive objective, personalized feedback and positive reinforcement which are vital to changing behavior and serve as a communications link between teachers and parents.
