AP Literature and Composition
"Get inside of a text. That part is easy though. Now, I dare you to pry your soul back out."
AP classes are meant to push students and provide an opportunity to earn college credit along the way. We will be working intensively on essay writing in preparation not only for the AP test in May, but for life. Those planning to attend college will be able to feel confident responding to literature in essay form, analyzing theme, characterization, plot, symbolism, and the larger context of the text. We will think critically about literature in many genres and mediums (poetry, short story, and novels).
Our goal isn't merely to pass a test; together we want to learn from the analysis of texts and through considering our own truths and experiences. Literature is a tool to help minds explore the world through the minds of others.Links for Their Eyes Were Watching GodHarlem Renaissance: http://www.jcu.edu/harlem/Literature/Page_1.htmLinks for Kafka's MetamorphosisIsms for Understanding MetamorphosisExistentialismSurrealismFreudianismKafka's life and ModernismMetamorphosis and Modernism - PowerpointAs I Lay Dying Articles for Wednesday, March 19William Faulkner Links:http://www.olemiss.edu/mwp/dir/faulkner_william/ - focus more on the years up to As I Lay Dying for this sourceModernism Links:
