Fair School Funding
Ohio’s lawmakers are discussing state budget considerations for fiscal years 2026 and 2027. The budget bill will define the inputs to the school funding formula through state statutes which is used to determine the amount of funding each Ohio school district receives.
Our lawmakers need to hear from Delaware City School residents on what is needed to provide appropriate educational services for our students and tax relief for our residents. We have an urgent ask of our community to reach out to our legislators to ensure decision makers hear from you in advocating for fair school funding.

Hello, my name is [Your Full Name] and I am a resident of Delaware City Schools. I wanted to reach out to express my deep concern about the current state of public-school funding in our community.
It is apparent in the community how the loss of state funding can negatively affect our classrooms, teachers, and students. The Ohio legislature's attempt to limit a district's operating carry-over cash balance to only 30%, could cost Delaware City Schools over $6 million just in the 2025-26 school year. This loss of property tax revenue will have a drastically negative impact on our district.
I urge you to take action. Specifically, I ask:
- Do not decrease the state’s share of our funding in the next Ohio Biennium Budget.
- Use current input data to determine the actual cost to educate, not data from 2022.
- Fully fund the Fair School Funding Plan with the changes above.
- Remove the provision restricting school cash balances to 30% or 90 days.
Delaware City Schools and other public schools across Ohio need your leadership and commitment as our local legislators. Our students at Delaware City Schools deserve access to a fully funded, high-quality education that prepares them for success in any future endeavor.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter affecting our families and students in our community.
