Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are rapidly evolving, offering both opportunities and challenges for students. DCS is committed to integrating these tools in ways that prioritize student safety, academic integrity, and responsible use.
Board Policy
DCS has Board policy related to AI that authorizes its use when it aligns with district goals and legal requirements. Additionally, our staff and student Acceptable Use Policies have been updated to reflect the appropriate use of AI. Our student handbooks provide guidelines for academic dishonesty and cheating. Data privacy is an area of priority for us, and our Board policy also governs the use of student personally identifiable information (PII) and an authorization process for which digital applications may be used for student login, including AI tools.
Age-Appropriate & Approved Tools
DCS staff ensure that students use GenAI tools that are appropriate for their age and maturity level. To ensure the safety and security of student data, DCS evaluates all educational technology tools. Only tools that meet strict standards for data privacy, security, and confidentiality are approved for use. Our SDPC DCS Listing provides a comprehensive list of these vetted tools, along with details about their data privacy practices.
Delaware City Schools believes it is important to prepare our students for a future and careers that are not yet known. AI will be an important part of their future, whether it is in the world of work or in their personal lives or both. We have created a DCS AI Guidance document for our staff as a proactive and essential step to help them understand both the benefits and risks, the legal guidelines we must follow in our learning environment, how we are developing a continuum of AI literacy standards for our students K-12 across DCS, and also how to handle issues related to academic integrity.
