                                   WELCOME 2019-2020 KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

Registration for new kindergarten students will begin in February. You may visit the Willis Education Center at 74 W. William Street or start the registration process online through the district's website.  Please call 740.833.1124 for a School Enroll Code to begin. The final step in the registration process is to visit the Willis Education Center and bring the necessary documentation.  The earlier you register, the easier it will be to ensure all paperwork is completed and your student can set a screening a time. Registration hours are 8:30-3:30 or you may call to schedule an appointment. Registration Information

    • Child must be five (5) years of age on or before August 1 of the year he/she begins school. Children do not have to come to school until age 6, but kindergarten is required.

    • Kindergarten screening will be held June 5th at Smith Elementary.

    Transportation Procedures - Safety First
We strongly encourage our drivers to park away from the school and walk. Street parking is located at the following areas:
    • Liberty St. between Mason Ave. and Elmwood Dr.
    • Liberty St. between Heffner St. and Pennsylvania Ave.
    • W. Heffner St. between Liberty St. and N. Franklin St.

    Mornings at Smith

All student drop off is on Liberty Street. This is a continuous drop off area only. We ask that you pull up, let your child out, and then pull forward to let the next person drop off their child. After exiting the car, students will walk to their designated entrance doors.

As students arrive at school, students in Kindergarten, First and Second grades will line up in front of the school off Liberty Street.

Students in 3rd grade will line up and enter through the Mason Avenue doors.

Students in 4th and 5th grades will line up at the lobby doors (new doors) on Heffner Street.

All students will enter the school at 8:20 a.m. In case of inclement weather, students will line up inside the school building.

    Bus students:

Buses will drop off students on Heffner Street.  A staff member will be on duty to assist K-3 students to lineup at the S.A.C.C. doors and 4-5 students at the lobby doors.

    Afternoons at Smith School

We appreciate your patience and understanding at dismissal time. Please know that safety is our first concern at all times. We recommend that you park and walk up the school to pick up your child. If you cannot park and walk, please pick up your child on Liberty Street in front of the school.  We respectfully request that you leave in a timely manner to accommodate other parents.

There is no parking, stopping, or standing on Mason Avenue.  Our Smith Bus zone is located on Heffner Street, and this is also a no parking, stopping or standing zone.

Changes in your child's normal dismissal routine

At all times, we work to ensure the safety of our students. If there is a change in your child's dismissal routine on a given day, please send a written note to the office or contact the school office at (740) 833-1350 prior to 12:00 p.m. If there is no contact with the school regarding the change (ie: no note or phone call), your child will follow their normal dismissal routine.
